A Tribute For Peaches

Peaches showed up as an unexpected guest at our Airbnb rental in Kentucky.  She hung out on the porch that entire weekend, and happily accepted any treats we shared.  My husband decided when we checked out if Peaches was still there, we would take her home with us to Vermont.  Sadly, when Sunday arrived and the time came to check out, Peaches was not there.  I cried nearly the whole way home.  We tried contacting area rescues to help locate her and get her off the streets, but Peaches was one of countless strays in this southern metro area, and there wasn’t a lot of assistance to be had.  I finally decided with the blessing of the Airbnb host, that I would make my way back to Kentucky to see if I could try and locate her.  Four days later, I booked a one way flight, booked a rental car for the return trip home, and went to find my girl.  I posted up on the porch of the Airbnb, armed with snacks and magazines, prepared that this could take hours, if I were successful at all.  17 minutes after I arrived, while I was reading a peach cobbler recipe in my Oprah magazine, my girl came strolling up.  Aptly named, Peaches and I were inseparable since that reunion.  Peaches was 6 years young when we lost her to renal failure, a sad reminder how important these health screenings are.
