Meet Our Team
Dr. Caroline Horn DVM, MMSc
Dr. Caroline Horn is the owner and founder of Paws at Home Mobile Vet. She is the only veterinarian in Vermont who is certified in hospice and palliative care. Dr. Horn earned her veterinary degree at the University of Georgia and practiced for 10 years as an emergency vet in Atlanta, Georgia and Asheville, North Carolina. She also obtained a master’s degree in human medical science with a specialty in anesthesia at Emory University. From 2002-2018, she primarily provided anesthesia services to people while practicing part-time veterinary medicine.
For several years, she worked with the specialists at Peak Veterinary Referral Center, assisting with pain management and anesthesia to some of their critically ill patients and providing anesthesia services for their MRI patients. Dr. Horn also authored the chapter on veterinary small animal anesthesia for one of the most popular and best-selling small animal surgical texts, Small Animal Surgery, by Theresa Fossum.
Dr. Horn believes there is a need for additional mobile vet services in the Burlington area and recognizes that for many reasons it can be difficult to get pets to traditional veterinary clinics. Dr. Horn’s interests in pain management and elderly pet care make a mobile vet service a natural fit. As an alternative to the traditional veterinary clinic, a home visit can mean less stress, more convenience, and longer conversations about your concerns for your elderly pet.
Dr. Horn shares her home with two dogs, three old cats, two loud birds, and one very loving husband.

Paige King, CVT
Paige joined the Paws at Home team in 2020 after graduating from VTC’s veterinary technology program. She earned her Veterinary Technician License in 2021 and graduated from SNHU with a degree in Management Operations in 2024. She is currently working toward completing her Hospice and Palliative Care Certification through the IAAHPC.
Paige has always been passionate about helping others and is honored to be a part of your pet’s care journey. As Paws at Home’s technician, her primary goal is to offer empathetic, knowledgeable, and reliable support. You will meet her during in-person appointments and will frequently hear from her if your pet is enrolled in our palliative or hospice care program.
Paige has three rescue kitties, Beanie, Mo, and Franklin, who graciously allow her and her fiance to live with them.
Ellen Black
Ellen Black joined the Paws at Home team in August of 2022 as our receptionist. She has a long background of customer service and has trained in communication and data analytics. She loves animals and people and is excited to get to communicate with and help our clients!
Ellen is our voice on the phone, if you call our office line she will be there with a heartfelt greeting and a kind word to handle inquiries about our services and appointments. She lives and works in South Carolina so if you hear a slight accent or she interjects a “y’all” now and then, don’t be alarmed! She and her husband have an adorable mini poodle named Coconut that they spoil every chance they get.

Sofia Carfaro
Sofia Carfaro is the newest member of the Paws at Home team. She was briefly the company’s first receptionist during the summer of 2020, so long-time clients might remember her from a long way back. Since then, Sofia finished her degree in theatre directing, gained extensive customer service experience, and spent time working in animal care in Chicago. She is happy to be back at Paws at Home and is passionate about helping patients get the care they need and assisting clients through difficult times.
Sofia grew up in Vermont and now lives in Asheville, NC with her husband and her cat Eda. She also fosters kittens for a local black cat sanctuary from time to time, so don’t be surprised if you hear a chorus of meowing when on the phone with Sofia.
